Forging & Steel
The blade uses kobuse forging, the classic Japanese method that wraps a hard outer steel around a softer, shock-absorbing core. Here it combines T10 steel with a clay-tempered Damascus hamon, the temper line born in the quench and the folded grain running beneath it. A cross-ground edge gives exceptional resilience and a precise, lasting cutting line. The blade is full-tang — every part of it built for real use, not the cabinet.
Kobuse is the lamination most associated with classical Japanese smithing: a hard outer jacket of steel is folded around a softer core so the finished blade is keen at the edge yet able to flex and absorb shock rather than shatter. Married here to a clay-tempered Damascus exterior and a cross-ground edge, it produces a blade that performs as hard as it looks.
