Ginga means galaxy — the Milky Way poured across a dark sky — and this tanto earns the name in its steel. The folded Damascus grain runs like a river of stars down the blade, lit with blue accents that catch the light the way the band of the galaxy catches the eye. Small enough to hold in one hand, it carries the whole night with it.

Forging & Steel

The blade is Damascus steel, folded so that layer over layer builds the flowing grain no stamped steel can imitate. Each fold draws the pattern further into the metal, and the cool blue accents trace through it like starlight. The result is a compact blade with genuine character — a true forged piece, not a printed pattern on a flat bar — with a keen edge and the kind of grain that looks different from every angle you turn it.

Fittings

The furniture is a warm copper-and-brass alloy that frames the cold blade beautifully. The tsuba and matching menuki kit are cast in the same alloy, the saya is lacquered wood with a bull-horn kurigata, and the tsuka is wrapped in stingray leather and pinned with a bamboo mekugi. The warm metal against the dark, starlit steel is the whole point of the piece: a small object that holds a lot of contrast.

Is it battle-ready?

The Ginga is a functional Damascus tanto — sharp, hand-mounted and ready to handle. The short blade makes it a natural utility and close-work piece, and its folded grain makes it an exceptional display and collector’s item.
