Sakana means fish — and the name suits a blade whose folded grain ripples across the steel like current over a riverbed. This upper-range katana pairs the strength of traditional materials with a clean modern line, a piece that speaks equally to connoisseurs and practitioners.

Forging & Steel

The blade is genuine Damascus steel, folded so the surface carries that distinctive wavy, watered pattern no stamped steel can imitate. Beyond its looks, the blade holds an exceptional edge — the reason it appeals as much to those who cut as to those who collect. The construction is full-tang, the blade running unbroken into the grip for a true cutting sword.

What sets a folded blade apart is not only the surface figure but the way the layering distributes stress through the steel, so the edge takes and keeps a keen line under repeated cutting. We finish the Sakana to favour the practitioner as much as the collector: it is sharpened, hung in a stable magnolia saya, and balanced for controlled tameshigiri rather than the cabinet alone. The gray of the watered steel is left understated on purpose, letting the rippling grain — not a coloured coating — carry the sword’s character.

Fittings

The tsuba is finely carved iron and brass, a two-tone guard that sets off the watered steel. The saya is lacquered magnolia wood, light and stable, and the tsuka is wrapped in green shagreen leather for a secure, distinctive grip.

Is it battle-ready?

Yes. The full-tang Damascus blade holds an exceptional edge and is suited to genuine tatami cutting as well as display. Browse the full katana collection, or compare with other folded-steel pieces like the Katana Hasunohana and the Katana Owari.
